授業概要 | Atwood’s Hag-seed (2016) appeared as part of the Hogarth Shakespeare series of rewriting the plays as contemporary novels. Prospero becomes Felix Phillips deposed as director of a theatre festival rather than as Duke of Naples, but still forced into exile, accompanied only by the memory of his daughter Miranda, now deceased. His opportunity for revenge comes through the Correctional Payers programme of drama in prisons which allows him to stage a version of The Tempest which entraps his adversaries, the politicians Tony, Sal and Lonnie, reinstates his power to forgive and allows him to relinquish his ‘potent art’. |
