授業概要 | The primary goal of this course is to develop the students listening and speaking skills with a focus on communication. With a combined content and skills-based syllabus, the course provides students with the opportunity to improve their conversation, discussion and presentation skills. They will be able to listen to a variety of TEDtalks on interesting topics and develop their note-taking skills as they do so. |
授業のねらい・到達目標 | By the end of this class, students will be able to communicate effectively in English about various topics. They will be able to listen effectively and understand short presentations. They will be able to actively share their opinions and reaction to these short presentations in English in small groups or in pairs. They will be able to effectively present their ideas on the unit topics in the form of a short presentation.(A-2- 1、A-3-1、A-6-1) この科目は文理学部のDP及びCPの2, 3, 6 に対応している。 |
授業の方法 | 演習形式 The students are expected to prepare for each class individually by completing the online language practice activities provided by the textbook. During each class, students will first listen to the TEDtalk all together as a class before splitting into small groups to complete the short communication and discussion activities. Every three weeks students will be required to present a short talk. For this short talk, the students will be required to prepare an outline, presentation script, and visual aid. The talk will be assessed according to the level of preparation involved and the delivery or performance of the presentation. Students who live abroad and far away from the campus. Also, students who are permitted by CHS or departments they belong to, or students who are permitted by class teachers will be expected to participate in class via Zoom and also upload assignments to Google Classroom. Feedback on their presentation performance will be given via Google Classroom one week after the performance. Feedback on the online practice activities will be given instantly. |
履修条件 | ①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。 ②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、外国語教育センターで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。 ③「英語1」(前期)と「英語2」(後期)は同一教員による同一時限のクラスを履修すること。 ④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。 |

成績評価の方法及び基準 | レポート:Online Language Practice(40%)、授業内テスト:Presentations (for those who can not participate face to face they will do these via Zoom or video record them)(40%)、授業参画度:Online Participation in real time classes(15%)、Self-Evaluation of presentations(5%) A score of 60% is needed to pass this course. 総計 60%以上を合格とする Students’ participation will be measured by a combination of attitude, attendance, homework completion, and preparedness. 対面授業に参加できない学生も上記基準のとおり評価する。 |

備考 | For this class, the students will be required to prepare for each lesson by completing the required online language practice activities assigned.
