授業概要	This class is a continuation of English 1 and students will continue to develop their communicative skills acquired in the spring semester. Students are required to spend at least an hour per week studying the directions for exercises given in the textbook, listen to the CD in the textbook and do the follow up exercises to improve their English listening and speaking skills.
授業のねらい・到達目標	We will continue to develop listening and speaking skills, placing much emphasis on speaking. この科目は文理学部（学士（文学））のディプロマポリシーDP2,DP4,DP5及びカリキュラムポリシーCP5,CP8に対応しています。
授業の方法	We will listen to different topics on important social and cultural activities, and gain information and advice from the reading passages based on the latest research in cognitive science. In addition to the textbook, we will use supplementary materials and communicative activities to be practiced in class in the form of individual and group work. Students are supposed to spend 1 hour to complete preparation and homework on each class.
履修条件	①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。 ②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、外国語教育センターで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。 ③「英語1」（前期）と「英語2」（後期）は同一教員による同一時限のクラスを履修すること。 ④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。

授業計画
1	Students write about what they did during the summer vacation and present it to the class. Question and answer sessions. 【事前学習】Students read Lesson 1 on pages 1 and 2. 【事後学習】Students re-write with corrections their essay on summer vacation.
2	Lesson 1 - Never Fail: Achieving Your Goals - Thinking ahead, key words, read the essay and discuss about it. 【事前学習】Find the meaning of the difficult words in the reading passage on page 2. 【事後学習】Summarize the important points in the passage in their notebooks.
3	Lesson 1 continued - writing with idioms and making conversation. 【事前学習】Students listen to the short talk on page 4. 【事後学習】Students answer the questions on page 4.
4	Lesson 2 - FYI: Cyber Psychology - thinking ahead, key words, listening to the essay, comprehension, word study, writing with idioms, making conversation and listening. 【事前学習】Find information about Mark Zuckerberg, facebook founder. 【事後学習】Do the exercises on page 8.
5	Lesson 3 - Kick it ! Addictions Old and New - thought for the day, thinking ahead, key words, listening activity, reading for details, making conversation. 【事前学習】Collect information about Benjamin Franklin, American author, statesman. 【事後学習】Answer the questions on page 12.
6	Lesson 4 - Mind Over Matter: Boosting Brain Power - thought for the day, key words,writing with idioms, making conversation and listening. 【事前学習】Find the difficult words in the reading vocabulary in the reading passage on page 14. 【事後学習】Summarize the main points in today's lesson.
7	Lesson 5 - The Artist in You: Fostering Creativity - thinking ahead, fill in the blanks, listen to the essay and answering questions. 【事前学習】Look forinformation about Erich Fromm, German psychologist and philosopher. 【事後学習】Answer the questions on page 20.
8	Lesson 6 - Don't Worry ! Handling Stress and Anxiety - thought for the day, thinking ahead, fill in the blanks, word forms, making conversation. 【事前学習】Think of what factors cause stress in daily life. 【事後学習】Answer the questions on page 24.

11	Lesson 8 - About Face: Appearance and Personality - thought for the day, reading preview, listen to the essay and answering questions. 【事前学習】Students think about face and character of Japanese people. 【事後学習】Students answer the questions on pages 31 and 32.
12	Lesson 9 - Mars or Venus? Gender and Mental Health - today's reading, reading for details, writing with idioms, making conversation, challenge listening. 【事前学習】Students search for information about Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General, 【事後学習】Answer the questions on page 35 and 36.
