授業概要 Students should view this course as a confidence builder. Those who take this course will be expected to use this opportunity to express their own opinions and ideas based on a broad range of topics and processes.Only by using one's own knowledge and expressing ideas and opinion can one expect to progress towards fluency in any language.
授業のねらい・到達目標 The purpose of this course is to build confidence using both spoken and written English within general and scientific themes. This will include making group PowerPoint presentations,random explanation of processes and written reports.

Here, students should not worry about their English levels nor worry about making mistakes as mistakes are a very important part of the learning process. Think of mistakes as being good.

授業計画
1 Course orientation. This orientation will include an outline of topics and what will be expected from the students. It will also include the rules students will be expected to follow during the course.
2 Expressing approximations,both mathematical and visual,as well as describing theoretical and hypothetical situations.
3 Explaining formulae, terms, symbols, and abbreviations
Using logical connectors and linking devices
4 Developing and explaining flow-charting and mind-mapping. Presentation planning
5 Two word verbs. (Phrasal Verbs) and pronunciation
Presentation Planning
6 Group Presentation
7 Review
8 Defining a process (Modal Auxiliaries)
9 Refining a process (Modal Auxiliaries)
10 Modal Auxiliaries (Continue)
11 Planning for written report (Previous class chemical experiment) Incorporating all previous study points.
12 Correcting of selected written report by students. (Previous Chemical class experiment)
13 Review and short assessment test of all studied to date.
Homework -- Student Self-Assessment report. Items to be given during class.
14 Logic quizzes and general thinking ability quizzes as final assessment.
15 Wrap-up and review.

教科書 No text will be set for this course. Readings and other material will be provided through handouts. Students should also be prepared to use English - English dictionaries to aid understanding and building of passive and active vocabulary.

Cell-phones should be firmly placed in bags out of sight or the cell phones will be confiscated.

成績評価の方法及び基準 レポート(20%)、授業参画度(80%)
Grades will be based on student participation, ability, attendance and reports. As no formal test will be set, students should be aware that performance and interaction combined with typed reports will also determine the grade to be received.
There will be no fixed percentages for each assessment point However interaction with others, good participation in the course study, attendance within the rules given at orientation and effective, well thought out reports will earn good grades.
