授業テーマ	20th Century American Literature: Places and Identities 1
授業のねらい・到達目標	In addition to learning about American literature's relationships between place and text, this class aims to improve abilities in reading and interpreting complex texts in English, participating in discussions, and in writing essays.
授業の方法	This seminar will examine relationships between American places and texts in key texts written in the 20th century. American literature is marked by a strong regional and geographical sense of place. Natural, rural, and urban places both shape and are shaped by literature. This seminar will explore these relationships between text and place by closely reading and discussing literature in various forms, including realist and postmodern novels, film, and short stories. Another focus of this course is on writing literary analysis and criticism in English. In addition to readings and discussions, students will prepare short in-class presentations, and write a final essay.
事前学修・事後学修，授業計画コメント	Students are required to do the readings and complete the homework assignments in order to prepare for class. This class is intended for highly motivated students who are willing to work hard to improve their English ability through the study of literature.
