授業テーマ To help students activate their substantial knowledge of English, and to have them come to realize they can use it to advantage.
授業のねらい・到達目標 To familiarize students with the sounds of usual spoken (American) English.
To create a light atmosphere in class so as to cause students to enjoy their time, and to make them feel that English is not a "foreign" language.
To instill confidence in students in asking questions when they don't understand.
授業の方法 There is no textbook. Basically this is so students must ask questions, rather than skim over written words that they note only passively, and this without understanding. ( Ultimately, however, they will see the material on paper. ) As much as possible it is the students who will be talking, not the teacher.
Many activities will be conducted using information gaps. Sometimes this will be done using pictures and songs.
履修条件 ①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。
②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、外国語教育センターで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。
③同一教員・同一時限で前期の「英語1」と対にして履修すること。
④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。
事前学修・事後学修,授業計画コメント Welcome to my class! There will be many exercises in which you will speak with one another in order to share information. Please always do this in English :-)) Other times maybe when I am talking to you, you might not understand me - this is natural. If you don`t undertand, then ask me and I will help you. I want you to enjoy your time here, and I hope I will
be able to help you improve your English.

Concretely:

Before class - do your homework!
During class - do not speak Japanese.
do NOT use your cell phone ( keitai )
do not use a dictionary (ask me instead )
         if you want to use the restroom just go - you do not need to ask permisson
if you don't understand me ask questions ( to me, not to your friend )
After class If you want to speak with me, I usually have time for you
授業計画
1 1. Written test to see that the homework for the summer has been done. 2. Review of describing positions. 3. Activity based on initial dictation of questions.
Preparation: Memorize the passage from My Antonia handed out in July. Do NOT wait until just before classes resume in the fall !!!
2 1. Oral test - timed activity ( 45 seconds) based on summer homework. 2. Introduction to idioms.
Preparation: Practice saying oral activity. Look at handout on idioms.
3 1. Second oral test - 45 seconds. 2. Pair work - one student describes picture to another who draws a copy. 3. Practice with idioms learned in lesson 2.
Preparation: Practice for oral test.
4 1. Third oral test: 90 seconds. 2. Camping Trip At Big Bend ( cooperative information sharing to piece together conversation) 3. Conditional sentences
Preparation: Handout on conditional sentences.
5 1. Reconstructing (mixed) conversation 2. Describing location ( advanced) 3. Song ( Yesterday Once More )
Preparation: Handout on describing location
6 1. Dictation of story ( out of sequence) 2. Recall of material from first semester 3. Vocabulary exercise based on last week's song ( Yesterday Once More ).

7 1. Dictation of ten questions to be used by students. 2. Recall of proverbs and when to use them
Preparation: Handout on vocabulary for dictation exercise.
8 Movie: Dead Poets Society. First part. Afterwards answer questions about movie.
Preparation: Handout germane to situations in movie.
9 Dead Poets Society. Second part. Afterwards begin paper on feelings about movie.
Preparation: Finish paper begun in class last week.
10 1. Collaborative reconstruction of material related to movie. 2. Dictation of questions related to the year end

11 1. "The Strange Birthday" - ( students work together to find parts of story ) 2. Recall of idioms and when to use them.
