授業テーマ | This course will introduce students to the anthropology of Japanese popular culture (hereafter JPC). Students will delve into social mechanisms, cultural practices, and historical processes that set the stage for conspicuous social phenomena that make up JPC. Questions to be investigated include: how JPC and relevant trends emerge, spread, and become parts of Japanese national competence. Case studies may include courtesanship, kabuki acting, manga, anime, J-Pop and J-Hip musical genres, pop idolatry, Takarazuka revue, otaku syndrome, the Cawaii phenomena, and Cool Japan. |

事前学修・事後学修,授業計画コメント | Group project will be given after a series of lectures. Students should be ready to work outside of the class as well. Project workshops will be provided in order to get a good sense of how to integrate what one learned through different approaches of subject acquisition in class. |
